Furry Smiles International Rescue is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization in USA, and BC registry non-profit association in Canada. We do not have a physical shelter location.We rely on our network with many fosters in the different area, who provide our dogs with love and care during transition from rescue, medical treatment, foster care to adoption. Our International rescue dogs will be flying to Canada and San Francisco, Los Angeles, Seattle, New York....or other city once the adoption is confirmed. Furry Smiles International Rescue (FSIR) have been working hard to improve the welfare of dogs/cats since 2005 irrespective of their breed, medical condition or age. All of our amazing volunteers donate their time because of their passion for helping dogs. We feel passionately that our role is not simply deal with the consequence of irresponsible ownership, but to also tackle the root causes and reduce the number of dogs needing to access the animal welfare system. Our rescue: we take care of them; we try to train them to be socialized; we find them a good home and we make sure dog/cat is living happily hereafter. We also believe in the therapeutic role that dogs can play in our local community. Our vision is a future where all pets are provided with a responsible and loving home for life.

We have gotten our last three dogs from dog rescues, and each time we adopted, we engaged with multiple rescues before finding the right match. So we have plenty of experience in dealing with rescues.
Sadly, many of Seattle's shelters and rescues are filled with an overabundance of chihuahuas, and pitbulls, and to a lesser extent Shepherds and Labs. All desperately in need of loving homes. Unfortunately, many prospective adoptive parents are looking for dogs with different sets of personality traits and characteristics, such as being nonaggressive and nonterritorial. Consequently, breeds other than those listed above tend to be quickly snatched up leaving many prospective parents looking far and wide for the dog they have in mind.
Many dogs are shipped to Seattle from eastern Washington or out-of-state, like Texas and California, where seasonal agricultural workers have taken to breeding dogs for supplemental income during the off-season. And various rescues even ship dogs to Seattle from overseas where large numbers of dogs live on the streets as strays.
Many of the dozens of dog rescues serving Washington are run entirely by volunteers, and this can sometimes mean communication is slow, and sometimes unresponsive.
Based on my past experiences, Furry Smiles International Rescue was a welcome surprise. Once we had expressed an interest in one of their dogs, the response we received was almost immediate, and the lines of communication remained open and clear. That alone sets them apart from many others. Additionally, they have extensive information about the dog you are interested in, and they even have multiple videos of many (if not all) of their dogs, demonstrating various aspects of their personalities. (Our dog had 8 videos devoted to him.)
And unlike another, large 'highly rated' international rescue (which shall go unnamed, but just always remember to read the 1-star reviews), Furry Smiles actually apparently cares deeply about adopting their dogs to the right, caring, and responsible homes. For Furry Smiles, the rescue business is truly a labor of love and compassion, and clearly not about the money (unlike the popular previously unnamed rescue). And, just because they are all-volunteer with no local employees, doesn't mean they don't do home inspections. We had to send them videos of our house, yard and family and fill out an extensive questionaire before we got the green light to adopt our newest family member.
Yes, there are many great rescues, and Furry Smiles can be counted among them.
