The ladies of Paws First have been active in rescue since 2002. They are involved in many aspects of rescue, including years of being a licensed volunteer State Humane Investigator. They work with many rescue partners and look forward to many more years helping dogs in need.
Step 1: Look at the Adoptable Pets and find a dog that looks like a great match for your home. Step 2: Email through the dogs profile. The websites are updated daily, so all information and pictures will be the most current available. You will receive an email response with some additional adoption information. Step 3: Reply to the email and request an Application be emailed to you. Applications are only sent upon request. PFR does not have an online application on any platform. Step 4: Complete and return the application following the instructions on the top of each application. Don't worry, it is easy and only takes a few minutes! PFR will never ask for your social security number or other sensitive information. It typically takes 1-2 Business Days (Mon-Fri) for an application to complete review. If there are multiple applications for one dog, applications will be processed in the order they are received. Step 5: You will be contacted by a volunteer and proceed from there!

I found a dog I was interested in adopting through Petfinder. The rescue is Paws First Rescue in Northfield. I contacted them and went through the application process and submitted my information. They contacted me about a date to meet the dog - I suggested a date 9 days out due to work schedules and received an e-mail saying they did not schedule meeting further out than 1 - 2 days. I can go online and request another appointment to meet the dog and IF AVAILABLE I can schedule something 1 - 2 days out...there is no phone number to call and they only communicate via e-mail. I am attaching the email chain below but honestly feel threatened by the director Rebekah based on her comments in the final e-mail. I have owned rescue dogs for 15 years and showed dogs for over 20......it is such a disappointment and makes me fearful of rescues and what they will attempt to do if questioned. Caution regarding this rescue!
Thank you.

Please don’t lecture me or try to engage me in an argument. Talk about unprofessional.
We have been running our rescue in our own way for 20 year, saving thousands of animals, and you are the first one to cause a scene like this in our memory.
We will not be engaging in any further conversation with you and we will not be adopting to you. We will also recommend to the other rescues we partner with not to adopt you as well.
Have a great day.

Rebekah, unfortunately you are making this horrible situation worse. First, calling someone passive aggressive is one of the most unprofessional statements anyone in a leadership role can make to someone who innocently reached out to inquire about a dog she wanted to adopt. Not stating your last name doesn't give anyone positive feelings nor does the fact that you want to discuss this matter via e-mail. Then your staff person who responded stated that the process of meeting the dog in 1 - 2 days has worked well for the past 10 years makes anyone in upper leadership cringe. Change is good. Necessary during times like the ones we are in. Ask, don't tell. Why is a really good question to start with. That is what you should be teaching your team to say. Inquire.
If you truly want the dogs, you re-home to get good homes, there should be communication. When you say the way, you do things has worked for you for over 10 years, then sweet Susie should be living in her forever home by now. An e-mail stating, I can e-mail your organization in the next week to schedule another time to meet Susie if she is still available keeps the issue circling, leaves one in shock and Susie still in rescue. Again, why not ask me why...I will share with you.
I have rescued multiple animals and showed dogs for over 20 years. I also run a non-profit so am hoping that another person leading a non-profit will benefit from my words. We are here to teach and learn and not to separate. You harm each animal in your care by separating and not joining. We are both here to do the same thing but from different sides. RESCUE!
If you truly believe in your mission, then contact me. Let's talk. I can be reached at 612-419-9997. This is my challenge to you. Let's move forward positively - if that's the choice of your organization and you as it's leader. Thanks, Rebekah.

I was made aware of a post you put on our Facebook page in regards to Susie.
If you have questions or comments about our adoption process please feel free to ask here rather than make passive aggressive posts on social media. We are extremely transparent with our adoption process and have no issues discussing it with you via email.

We do not schedule appointments out that far. 24 to 48 hours in advance is generally as far as we go. If that is the only time that you were able to come to meet Susie, feel free to email a day or two in advance and see if she is still available for a meeting.
Thanks.

?I am wondering if the morning of Friday, January 21st would work. If so, is there a time that works best? Thanks!

Susie is ready to go to a new home anytime. Unlike other rescues you may have worked with in the past Paws First does not require multiple trips, long waiting periods, or other difficult barriers to adoption. Susie’s foster is very flexible for meetings during the day or early evenings. All meetings are done in Northfield. Meetings are set with the intention of a dog going home at that time.
Is there a day and time you had in mind to meet?
Thanks.
